One Dollar Funeral Services (ODFS) is a community-driven, non-profit initiative established to ease the financial burden associated with funeral expenses. By pooling resources from members, we ensure no family feels overwhelmed during a time of loss. This service represents an ongoing act of charity (Sadaqah Jariyah), fostering unity and compassion within our community.

Scope of Services

ODFS provides financial support only, up to $7,000, to assist with funeral expenses.
ODFS does not handle or cover services such as body pickup, washing, burial, or land acquisition.
The entire $7,000 is given to the deceased’s family to assist with funeral-related costs.

Memebership Details

Eligibility

Membership is open to all Muslims aged 18 and above residing in Canada legally.
Each member must register individually to be eligible for services, even if they are part of the same household.

Membership Fee

The membership fee is $1.00 per person.

** Bank Account Pre-Authorization **

Members must pre-authorize their bank accounts at the time of registration to facilitate future contributions for funeral expenses.
For every pre-authorized withdrawal, a small administrative fee (e.g., $0.50) will be charged to cover operational costs.

Activation Period

Membership becomes active three months after the application is received. During this waiting period, members are not eligible for financial support.

Financial Coverage and Cost-Sharing Model

Collection Process Upon Death

When a member passes away, $7,000 is collected from all members and given directly to the deceased member’s family as financial support.
In addition to the collected amount, a small administrative fee will be applied to cover operational costs, ensuring the sustainability of the program.

Administrative Costs

Administrative costs, such as website maintenance, claim processing, and communication, are covered by the small fee collected during each withdrawal. These costs do not reduce the $7,000 financial support provided to the family.

Additional Guidelines

Volunteer and Confidentiality Policy

Volunteers assisting with financial coordination must adhere to strict confidentiality regarding members’ information.
Details about the deceased or the family’s financial assistance are not to be disclosed without prior consent.

In Extraordinary Circumstances
In cases of mass casualties, pandemics, or natural disasters where multiple members pass away simultaneously, ODFS may limit the support provided. Partial assistance will be determined based on member consensus.
